Seeding Your Searches

Post by dynasty on Sat Jan 02, 2010 2:58 am

This is the spiel for all new members who do not know what seeding is. Well, more for the old members who get tired of explaining it and want just a simple copy/paste.

Seeding
Certain items are available in certain types of buildings, and each has a find rate that determines how likely your search is to yield that item. The searching system is less likely to give you an item that's on the floor when you're searching, so long as that item can be found in that building. Basically, if you're carrying an item in your inventory that you're not looking for, you can drop that on the floor of the building you're in to make it more likely to find the other items which you do want. Then you can pick it up again later to use it or to do the same in another building.

Empty weapons, empty jet injectors, and items with empty gas tanks or batteries, are the exception and do not affect how likely you are to get that item.

Quarantine thread here.

In short, if you're looking for item X and you walk into a building that yields items X, Y, Z, then you drop items Y and Z to make it more likely to find X while searching.

Note: Items with dead batteries don't affect search rates. Neither do loaded jet injectors that contain expired vials. However, expired vials of antidotes on the floor will affect search rates, so pick those off the floor.

Myths

  • Medkits DO affect the seeding rates. If you put down a medkit, it will lower the rates of return for other medkits just like any other seeding item.
  • Zombies present on that floor or in that building do NOT affect your seeding rates. Your search rates will be the same, but make sure you don't forget to keep in mind the floor's resource points and whether or not lights are on.
  • TRUE Cemetaries and parks have lower search rates. The reason is this: they are always "unlit", cutting your search rates in half.

If you have any other things you'd like cleared up, you may post the questions here
